Hello Indie Game Devs! We are starting a new segment on GameForce.blog called Indie GameJAM: Tips and Tricks. The segment is a home for “snippets” of Indie development knowledge. We would like all to participate for the advancement of the Indie Dev knowledge collective. Read below to see what you contribute and what you get in return. To participate, you can reach out and leave us a DM via our X.com (Twitter) feed.
What you give:
Between 100 and 200 words of original wisdom that you think would help others in their Indie Development goals. The best snippets of knowledge are not located in books or guides. They are located in your collective memory of experiences that went well and more so of those that did not. What you learned by trial and error is most valuable. Illustrations are not required but are acceptable with credit citation.
Topics that make for great Indie GameJAM fodder:
- Details of what you’ve done that went well and why.
- Details of what you’ve done that didn’t go so well and why.
- Game engine specific tips and tricks (Godot, Unreal, Unity. etc.)
- Game coding tips and tricks.
- A great resource that you have found helpful and why.
- Assets that you used repeatedly and successfully.
- An info-graphic or illustration that increases quality or saves time.
- Pick your brain. What you would teach to your apprentice!
What you get (for each snippet your submit):
- Credit as the author for every snippet you submit.
- A short bio with avatar and links to each of your social platforms or URLs of your choosing.
- A pic of your latest game project with a link to a URL of your choosing, such as your Steam, Epic, Itch.io page, etc..
- A position of honor in our Indie GameJam Contributor List.
We have found there to be few free and useful resources available for Indie Developers today. We hope that this will change by creating this library of knowledge that aspiring developers can access and use.
