The shields in Tears of the Kingdom are extremely useful. While they aren’t as flashy as swinging a big skeleton arm with a pitchfork, they are still extremely useful. Here are some suggestions to help you maximize your Fuse ability, shields, and potential.
The Best Shield Fuse Combinations for Combat in Tears of the Kingdom
In the right hands, these Fuse combos will change the tide of battle if they are used correctly.
Electric or Frost Keese Wings
Shields can parry? If you don’t know, you probably dodge instead. But did you know that by parrying with a shield (L + A), you can sometimes activate your fused ability?
We have a short-range status applicator if we parry an enemy’s face with an electric or ice Keese Wing. It is very easy on shield durability, so you can use it again and again against powerful single foes. You can freeze or stun them with just a push of the button.
Puffshrooms
A puffshroom on your shield emits a cloud of smoke, which gives you the opportunity to sneak attack enemies from behind. If you need to regroup, you can also use this opportunity to disengage completely from the fight.
Beam Emitters
You can use the L button to blast enemies from afar with Beam Emitters on Zonaite Shields that have a higher efficiency.
The Best Shield Fuse Combinations for Traversal in Tears of the Kingdom
The Fuse combos will be focused on getting around quickly, whether ascending vertically or shield surfing down slopes.
Carts
With Zonaite Carts fused to your shield, shield surfing is possible on any terrain (even Gloom!). However, surfing still breaks them pretty quickly, so I would suggest using them with the most durable shields.
Rockets
An excellent way to quickly gain altitude and gracefully transition into a glide is to fuse rockets to shields.
Springs
In certain parts of the game, Zonaite Springs can be found more abundant than Rockets, and can be used to cross large gaps. Simply begin a shield surf with a Spring Fused to your shield, and then use your glider to descend.
