Despite already receiving major post-launch nerfs from Blizzard, the Whirlwind Barbarian is Diablo 4’s most powerful build. Because of their extreme mobility and tanky nature, Whirlwind Barbarians can deliver extreme damage numbers when in AoE as well as single-target situations by debuffing and bleeding. Whirlwind Barbarian builds are only as strong as their gear, so this aspect is mandatory.
How to Unlock the Dire Whirlwind Aspect in Diablo 4
There are two ways to unlock the Dire Whirlwind Aspect:
- Complete the Garan Hold Dungeon in Scosglen
- Legendary gear extraction
When you complete the Garan Hold Dungeon, you will gain the Aspect of the Dire Whirlwind, making it available for imprinting onto Legendary gear. However, imprinting Aspects from your Codex will always result in the lowest stats available.
Garan Hold Dungeon Location in Diablo 4
The dungeon is located in Northern Scosglen, just east of the Corbach encampment waypoint. When you find a burning settlement infested with Fallen, you know you have reached it. See the map below for its exact location.

The Garan Hold is a long dungeon full of traps, Fallen, and burning skeletons. Before completing the dungeon, you’ll need to destroy the three idols. Once you have destroyed the three idols, slay the Keeper of the Hold to gain the key to the boss room. The Spiritcaller of Flames is the final boss in the dungeon.
