There is a turn-based combat system in Honkai: Star Rail, in which players fight against one another in turns, using powerful attacks and special abilities to destroy their opponents.
It is important to note that due to the speed of the battle, each member will only be able to attack, defend, or use an item once in each round, so take this time to strategize and act accordingly based on what is happening in the battle.
Secrets for Winning Battles in Honkai Star Rail (HSR)
Utilize the techniques of your character
A character’s Technique ability (the Skill button) should always be used to initiate a battle. As you only get three Technique points, make sure you keep an eye out for purple containers between battles. Break them to replenish your Technique. This will start the battle in your favor, as you can already harm your opponent or boost your team.
Having at least one ally with a strong Technique effect is enough to make your team work. As Technique Points are shared between teammates, there is no need to build your team around Technique abilities.

Tip: A technique is a type of consumable that provides benefits to your party based on the characters in your party. However, a technique can also be used offensively to break the enemies of your party.
Tip: To buff your party members in the Simulated Universe, techniques can be used instead of consumables to buff your party members.
Go for the highest DPS Characters
Since 4-star DPS characters have lower base stats than 5-stars, they will always be weaker than 5-star supports. As a result, 4-stars are usually cast aside when a 5-star joins the team.
While you should level your 4-star DPS characters (especially in early game), you might want to save your most valuable resources for other characters.

Pay attention to the Locked-On Target Icon
There are times when opponents will ‘lock-on’ to one of your characters. When that happens, you will see a little red-glowing target icon above the character’s head. Beware, as this icon is easy to overlook.
When an opponent locks in their next attack, you know exactly which character they will hit, so you can minimize the damage. As a new player, ensure that March 7th casts her shield on a locked-on ally.

Before engaging in combat, take consumables
It is common knowledge that when you use items prior to combat, you will gain a significant advantage over your opponents, as the items provide many benefits to your party, including boosting maximum health, attack damage, defense, and healing.
Depending on the situation, you might not be able to use items, for example when you’re in the Simulated Universe, so it is recommended that you use the technique of your character instead, rather than using the items.

You should upgrade your equipment
In the beginning, upgrading your equipment will give you a boost in terms of power. If you feel like you’re being overwhelmed by your enemies, try leveling up your Light Cones or Relic Sets as soon as possible.
You should always try to spend your EXP Materials as little as possible and wait until you get a 5 Star Relic with incredible stats to avoid wasting precious materials, since you’ll probably change your relics later on.

Tip: In Honkai Star Rail, attack power, critical rate, and HP are important, but speed is a crucial stat that shouldn’t be overlooked. In turn-based combat, being faster than your opponents enables you to attack more often. You can also gain an advantage immediately by attacking first at the start of a battle.
Find out what your enemy’s elemental weakness is
When you use characters that are strong against an enemy’s element, you will be able to gain an advantage over your enemy, which will make it easier for you to defeat them. When you use characters that are strong against an enemy’s element, you will be able to gain an advantage.
Moreover, you can strategize which party setup you should use in order to defeat stronger enemies and bosses by using this method.
Tip: A quick view of your opponent’s status and abilities can be obtained by pressing the ‘Z’ button at the top of the screen, or by clicking on their name at the top of the screen. Additionally, you will be able to see what status effects are in effect, what they do, and how long they last. It is crucial to have this information to be able to predict the next attack of your opponent.
