Cause of Starfield’s Headless Character Bug
You can prevent the Headless Character Bug from occurring by scoping or aiming down sights in Starfield. Get the details here on how to prevent the bug from occurring, an explanation of the problem, and more.
How to fix the Starfield Headless Character Bug
Option 1: Pressing the LB button on an Xbox controller or pressing F on a keyboard twice will open and close the Hand Scanner. However, this method cannot be relied upon to prevent the bug from happening again.
Option 2: Switch to a first-person view to fix the problem. The bug keeps you stuck in place when viewing from the third person, but you can switch to the first-person view to fix it. Switching back to third-person view will leave you with the headless bug.
Option 3: Until a patch fixes this bug, try reloading to an earlier save and try avoiding scoping in your sights or aiming down your sights until the Hand Scanner opens and closes correctly.
