Developed by Acorn Computers Ltd, the Acorn Electron (nicknamed Elk within Acorn and beyond) was a cheaper alternative to the BBC Micro educational/home computer. It had a lot of the same features as the more expensive machine but at a much lower price. It had 32 kilobytes of RAM, and it came with BBC BASIC II and the operating system. Announced in 1982 for a possible release that year, it was released on 25 August 1983.
