Synergy Skills, mountable Chocobos, and more new gameplay features and changes were added for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (FF7 Rebirth). Check out the game’s new features, exploration mechanics, and content changes!
FF7 Rebirth New Gameplay Features
Synergy Skills
In addition to the commands and abilities you can use in combat, party members can now unleash Synergy Skills on opponents. In this attack, one character will initiate the Synergy Skill with another active party member.
Skill Trees
Combat capabilities of characters can now be improved through Skill Trees. Since it’s not yet confirmed if weapons will still be a source of Abilities and Passives like they did on FF7 Remake, these Skill Trees might contain most of the character upgrades in Rebirth.
Revenge Gauge for Red XIII
Another new gameplay feature tied to combat is the playable Red XIII! But what makes him different from the other characters? According to Director Hamaguchi, Red XIII will have a Revenge Gauge separate from his ATB Gauge that allows him to use special moves. Successfully guarding attacks with Red XIII fills the Revenge Gauge, rewarding defensive playstyles.
Chocobo Mounts
With large areas and maps added, the party will need new means of transport for smooth exploration. Chocobos can now be used as mounts instead of an instant travel feature to specific points in the map!
There are also different types of Chocobos, such as Mountain Chocobos that can scale cliffs and Sky Chocobos that can fly, to find on different regions. Make sure to utilize their unique capabilities to fully explore each area!
