Wilderness in RuneScape makes or breaks the game. Jagex caused uproar when it was removed, followed by a decline in players and eventually a poll to bring it back. You can kill players in the Wilderness, but you can also collect resources, skill, and engage in distractions. There are several Wilderness Flash Events to choose from in RuneScape.

A Wilderness Flash Event takes place hourly in numerous locations in the Wilderness. Players can find out more about the event by talking to Nikkel or Wandering Ramokee in Edgeville. Wilderness Flash Events are combat-based or non-combat-based, or combine both.

Spider Swarm
It is important for each player to deal at least 70000 damage to a horde of spiders within five minutes to be considered a participant. Beware of dungeon, ice, and night spiders in order to be successful.
Rewards: There is a combat XP lamp and a sack of wild rewards in this package.
Unnatural Outcrop
During this non-combat event, players are required to gather strange ore from unnatural outcrops. Individual and group targets for strange ore collected will be determined by the number of players participating. As soon as the unnatural outcrops disappear, the players must submit all strange ore to the Zamorakian miner within five minutes of the disappearance of the outcrops.
Rewards: A sack of wild rewards and mining experience awaits you.
Demon Stragglers
As part of this event, players must defeat a horde of greater demons in five minutes, dealing at least 70000 damage to each of them in order to qualify for participation.
Rewards: There is a combat XP lamp and a sack of wild rewards in this package.

Butterfly Swarm
The objective of this non-combat game is to help players collect butterflies without harming them by avoiding poisonous ones. The number of participants in the event determines the individual and group targets for butterflies collected. Each butterfly must be submitted to the demon hunter within five minutes before it disappears.
Rewards: A sack of wild rewards and hunter experience.
King Black Dragon Rampage
The player has five minutes to kill the King Black Dragon, a freezing black dragon, a poison black dragon, and a shocking black dragon during this combat event. To be considered as having participated in the combat event, the player has to defeat the King Black Dragon with 35000 deals.
Rewards: A combat XP lamp, a sack of wild rewards, a sack of very wild rewards, and possibly a black dragon scale.
